In response to international terrorist activity, the International Maritime Organization, IMO, has approved the International Ships and Port facilities security code. This code establishes in its article 11 that the company will designate a company security officer, who may carry out this position with respect to one or more vessels.
The course structure has been developed seeking that the participant have knowledge about maritime security and apply them on shipping company and fleet when necessary to comply with the provisions of the ISPS code.
This structure course is intended to provide the knowledge required for CSO in connection with Ship Security officer (SSO) to perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), chapter XI-2, the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
